Welcome.
I have had a lot of people email me over the past few weeks asking if there is any help for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) sufferer’s. I have made some inquiries and found one of the leading IBS hypnotherapists in Australia, who was not only willing to do an interview with me, but also provide one of her hypnosis recordings which she uses with her patients.
Her name is Alison Burton and she runs Simply Natural Therapies an integrated and holistic natural health and wellbeing centre. You can find her on the web at http://www.simplynaturaltherapies.com.au .
Alison’s qualifications include Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy), Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy; Diploma of Psychotherapy, HypnoBirthing Practitioner, Kinergetics Level 8, Reiki 1, Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. Clinical Member Australian Hypnotherapy Association (AHA) Accredited Member – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists
Alison is an Occupational Therapist, Hypnotherapist, Sleeptalk for ChildrenTM Coach, and Accredited HypnoBirthing Practitioner, specializing in the field of counselling, hypnotherapy, relaxation training, stress and pain management. She has worked in a number of areas of health and human relations over the past 25 years, including psychiatry, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, individual, group and family therapy.
As you can see Alison is very experienced and has had a great deal of success with her therapies over the years. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is usually categorised by the lack of any discernible infection or physical reason why the patients condition exists. Because of this, medication has a limited effect and can only be seen as treating the symptoms of the condition without making significant inroads as to the source of the problem. This is one of the reasons why hypnotherapy is so effective. Alison says that the same treatment is also very beneficial for issues such as Ulcerative Colitis, Celiacs Disease, Crohn’s Disease and many other digestive disorders.
IBS ranges from constipation and diarrhea to stomach cramps and involuntary bowel release. Due to its nature many people can not even leave their homes without fear of an attack. This leads them on a vicious cycle of anxiety and depression which, as the interview illustrates, only leads to more recurrence of the condition. Hypnosis allows these people to calm their stomachs as well as their minds creating the opposite type of cycle. As their anxiety lessens, so too do their attacks of IBS, and they can then take a rest from depression allowing more positive and creative thoughts to lead them on to experiencing the better parts of life.
If you are a sufferer of IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiacs Disease, Crohn’s Disease or have any other digestive disorders then I don’t need to explain the effects of your condition. I would urge you to give this recording a try and listen to it every night. It is only 21 mins long and can easily be downloaded onto any mp3 player, Ipod or burnt onto disc to be played at your leisure.
All you have to do is leave your first name and your email address on the form to your right and you will be emailed a confirmation email. Confirm your request and a welcome email will be sent immediately with the password to access the download page.
I would like to thank Alison Burton for her time and her efforts to produce this recording for us. Enjoy!

I am also very interested in the treatment of IBS with hypnotherapy. I completed several years of research and also carried out the first trial of its kind in Australia for my Ph.D from the University of Sydney.
IBS is a multi-faceted disorder with the two main areas of treatment being diet and stress. I feel that treating such a complex array of symptoms (both physiological & psychological) warrants more than just a CD. Treating a patient face-to-face, with a CD as back-up, to my mind, is more comprehensive and results in a more successful outcome.
Hi Julie, thanks for your comments. How did your trial go? Sounds very interesting. Certainly a face to face interview would allow you to understand the specifics of each case and aid you in your hypnosis treatement. As you would know in regards to hypnosis and the subconscious mind that when the subconscious is given instruction and accepts it as a belief it will take whatever measures it needs to make this belief a reality regardless of the specifics of the conscious perception.
Alison Burton has used her system of hypnosis successfully with many patients and has created this recording specially for this blog due to inquiries on this subject. Alison says the more you listen to the recording the greater your chance of success. I would love you to make a recording of your own to trial on this site.
Thanks, Admin.
